A THIEF who pointed a gun at a store attendant’s head during a terrifying robbery at a convenience store in Melbourne’s west remains on the loose.

Police say the armed man entered the 7-Eleven on Synnot St, Werribee about 2.30am and threatened the employee with a gun.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Leonie Johnson said the man forced the attendant to hand over cash and fled the scene.

No one was injured in the holdup.

3AW has reported that the gunman pointed his weapon at the terrified store attendant’s head and ordered the 30-year-old open all the store’s doors before taking off with a large sum of money.

A detective investigating the holdup told the radio station the employee was “quite traumatised”.

“He’ll go through our processes and then we’ll get him some support agencies to assist him,” the detective said.

Local detectives have reviewed CCTV footage and released an image of a man they wish to speak with.

He is caucasian and about 180cm tall with dark hair.

He wore a light coloured hoodie over a dark jumper and blue pants.
