Ipswich police are on the hunt for two men who attempted to rob a Flinders View service station armed with a hammer and a handgun.

The thieves entered the servo, located on Ash St, about 2.15 am yesterday morning.

With their weapons in hand, they demanded money from the 22-year-old male attendant.

The attendant locked himself in a back room and the two men fled the scene on foot, in the direction of Briggs Rd, Raceview.

One of the men was described at being 170cm, of thin build and was wearing a black balaclava, black hoodie, black tracksuit pants and carrying a Nike bag and a hammer.

The other man was also said to be 170cm with a slightly larger build and was wearing a white mask, black hoodie, black trousers, blue shoes and was armed with a black handgun.

The attendant was not injured. Investigations are continuing.
