Tweed Byron police are searching for a one-legged man who drove off with stolen numberplates in a ute without paying for petrol from a Banora Point service station last month.

Police took to the Tweed Byron LAC Facebook page posting images of the man filling up his white Ford Ute.

“Between 4am and 5.00am on Thursday April 23, the front registration plate 444JZP (QLD) was stolen from a blue Nissan Navara utility in the Banora Point area,” they posted.

“The stolen number plate was later attached to the vehicle as shown in this CCTV footage.

“A short time later, the white utility has attended a nearby service station, whereby the male has failed to pay for fuel.”

Of note, the post read, was ‘the male shown in the CCTV footage is missing his entire right leg.’

“The male is described being 30 – 40 years of age, medium build with dark hair,” police posted.
