A knife-wielding thug has terrorised a staff member during a hold-up at a Melbourne service station.

CCTV captured the moment a man armed with two knives stormed the business on Hallam Road in Hampton Park at 6.15am on March 8, and threatened the attendant.

The ordeal lasted just 86 seconds, with the armed thief shouting threats at the staff member, knocking over a drinks machine and flooding the floor.

The thief fled the service station on foot and was last seen escaping towards Fordham Road in Hampton Park.

The victim was too shaken to speak about his ordeal in public, and has returned to work with trepidation, fearing he could be targeted again.

“Being presented with two large kitchen knives, he’s obviously afraid,” Senior Constable Sheree Osborne said.

“Police are confident with the release of CCTV footage that we will speak with the man involved.”

The offender is described as having a heavy-set build, aged in his 20s and of Islander appearance.

Police urge anyone who recognises the man to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 FREE before he strikes again.
