A man has been charged with armed robbery after a hold-up at a north Queensland service station.

Police allege the 29-year-old man entered the Caltex Service Station in Paget just before 5:00am (AEST) yesterday.

It is alleged the man filled his car with fuel, selected a drink and then asked for cigarettes, before threatening a female staff member, indicating he had a gun.

He is due to face the Mackay Magistrates Court today.
