A business owner in Albury is taking a radical approach to a spike in the numbers of petrol drive-offs in his town.
Norris Park IGA Plus Liquor owner Gary Evans was fed up with cowardly drivers skipping without paying.
Mr Evans explained to Neil Mitchell he posts CCTV footage of the culprits on Facebook and YouTube to try and track them down, to shame them into coming forward and paying.
But it doesn’t end there.
Once he knows where they live, he’ll knock on their door himself.
“As soon as we know there’s a petrol drive-off, what we’ve been doing is taking a video uploading it to our Facebook site and also on YouTube,” he said.
“And we ask the public through Facebook does anyone know these drivers or the vehicles.
“We’ve probably had 75-80 per cent success rate where people have dobbed them in.”
He said posting it online garners support from well-meaning members of the public and he has confronted the culprits.
“I’ve done that a couple of times, gone around and seen them,” he said.
