Police have released CCTV footage of a man allegedly involved in the armed robbery of a service station in eastern Adelaide overnight.

The suspect entered BP On the Run on Magill Road in Kensington Gardens at about 11:30pm armed with a handgun, police said.

He threatened staff, stole cash and escaped east on Magill Road before running south on Glynburn Road, they said.

Police dogs tracked him to Elford Street but the suspect disappeared, despite a police helicopter search of the area.

No-one was injured in the robbery.

Meanwhile, three teenagers and a 42-year-old man were arrested after allegedly trying to steal a car in northern Adelaide.

Police said a resident of Greencroft Road woke at 4:00am to hear noises on his driveway and saw a torch being shone into his car.

Officers arrived at the scene and caught the older man, who was wearing a balaclava and gloves, followed by an 18-year-old man who had jumped over neighbouring fences.

A police dog was used to find a 19-year-old woman hiding in some bushes, and also wearing a balaclava and gloves, then a 19-year-old man hiding in nearby Fowler street.

All four charged with being unlawfully on premises, going equipped to commit an offence and illegal interference with a motor vehicle.
