A man has escaped with a sizeable sum, including a $1400 jingle in his pockets, after stealing coins and notes from a service station in central Queensland.

Police are trying to track down the culprit after he broke in through the back door of the Marian petrol stop, west of Mackay, in the early hours of Wednesday.

He took money from an ATM and a safe, as well as $1400 in coins, before fleeing.
