A 52-year-old Beechwood man has been taken to Kempsey hospital for treatment for a minor knife wound to his hand after an argument with another customer at a South Kempsey service station on Wednesday.

About 1.25pm the man was lined up to pay for petrol when he got into an argument with a 17 year-old Kempsey youth who was also in line.

The Beechwood man allegedly was slashed on the left hand by the youth with what is described as a bread and butter, or table knife.

Police said they are still interviewing witnesses to the alleged incident.
