A MAN has been arrested after he held up a service station on the Gold Coast.

A police spokeswoman said police first noticed the man driving erratically at about 8pm.

Police tried to intercept the vehicle but the driver allegedly failed to stop, and crashed into parked cars on North and High streets.

Police will allege the man then drove to a Caltex Service Station on Smith Street in Southport.

The man then allegedly held up the service station with a gun and demanded cigarettes.

Police confronted the man outside the service station where he was arrested
