Police are seeking witnesses to an assault on a Perth taxi driver in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

At around 2.20am, the taxi driver was fuelling up at a service station on Great Eastern Highway when he was approached by a man who demanded cash.

When he refused, the man became verbally abusive, punched the driver in the head stole a mobile phone from inside the cab.

Police said a female approached the driver’s side window and “joined the assault”.

When another car pulled into the service station, the pair fled on foot along Acton Avenue.

The taxi driver, a 27-year-old man from Maylands, received minor injuries to his face and body.
