A man wielding a large machete and wearing a white plastic mask demanded cash and cigarettes from Kialla BP overnight.

Shepparton police alleged the man attended the counter and threatened a staff member, and the staff member handed over a quantity of cash and cigarettes, at about 12.20am this morning.

Shepparton police Detective Sergeant Mick Sheahan said the offender took the stolen goods and fled the scene.

Police attended Riverview Drive and located the stolen goods.

Police then attended a pool store on the Goulburn Valley Hwy, where they located clothing and a machete.

A Shepparton man, 45, is being interviewed by police and is expected to be charged with armed robbery.

He will appear at court later today.
