A large fire that destroyed part of a petrol station in South Australia’s Mid North will be investigated.

Fire investigators are expected to attend the scene on Wednesday in Riverton where fire destroyed the main building of the petrol station.

The Country Fire Service was advising residents on Tuesday night of smoke hazard in the area.

The fire began at 6pm but no one was injured.

The town’s main street, which forms part of the Barrier Highway, was unlikely to reopen before the morning.

There is a 500-metre exclusion zone around the scene.
