Customers at a petrol station have used extinguishers to put out a deliberately-lit fire in Rockhampton, police say.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly starting the fire at the petrol station in Beserker about 10.45pm on Wednesday.
Police alleged the man went to the Musgrave Street business and used a fuel pump to pour petrol onto the ground near a bowser.
On two occasions, he allegedly used a lighter to ignite fuel coming from petrol nozzles.
It led staff to cut the fuel supply at the station, a move that police said likely prevented an explosion.
Members of the public restrained the man until police arrived and took him into custody.
There were no injuries.
The man, from the Rockhampton suburb of Kawana, is expected to be charged with endangering property by fire and is due to appear in court on Thursday.
