East Gippsland detectives have arrested and charged a man over the armed robbery of a petrol station in July this year.

Police said a man entered the United petrol station in Bairnsdale about 6:30pm (AEST) and threatened the attendant with a knife.

The attendant handed over about $300 cash and the offender escaped on foot.

A 27-year-old Bairnsdale man was arrested yesterday morning and has been charged with armed robbery, burglary and other offences.

He faced court and has been remanded to appear in Bairnsdale Court in December.
