THIEVES have made off with an ATM from a Yarra Glen service station, causing extensive damage and debris in their wake.

At 4am today, offenders reversed a Nissan four-wheel-drive into the front door of the Bell St petrol station and proceeded to hook up the ATM to the car before driving off.

Debris from the towed machine was scattered along the road as the thieves made their getaway.

Detectives from the Yarra Ranges criminal investigation unit set up an extensive crime scene and their investigation is continuing.

No arrests have been made.

In a similar incident on September 19, thieves stole a truck before using it to smash their way into a Glenburn service station and steal an ATM northeast of Melbourne.

It is not known whether the two cases are linked.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen or heard anything suspicious is urged to contact Crime Stoppers by phoning 1800 333 000 FREE or submitting a report online.
