Man arrested at Paralowie service station while allegedly trying to rob it with a hammer

A MAN has been arrested at a Paralowie service station as he allegedly tried to rob it with a hammer.
The man, 29, of Burton, is alleged to have demanded cigarettes, money and mobile phones from the Waterloo Corner Rd station staff on Saturday about 2am but the attendants activated the holdup alarm and moved into a secure area of the store.
Police say the man then jumped the counter and unsuccessfully tried to gain access to the cash register with a hammer.
Police responded to the alarm and apprehended the man behind the counter of the service station. He was disarmed and arrested without incident.
No one was injured during the attempted robbery.
The man was charged with attempted robbery and property damage.
