FUEL on the North Coast should get steadily cheaper until at least the new year despite reports Sydney has hit the bottom of its petrol price cycle.

The NRMA warned drivers in the capital to fill up now as prices sit just above $1.10 a litre, with a peak expected just before Christmas.

But NRMA spokesman Peter Khoury said regional areas could expect price dips right up until the beginning of 2016.

“I doubt prices would get down to the levels we’re talking about in Sydney, but regional areas are on a very different price cycle,” he said.

“Areas like the North Coast should see prices continue to steadily fall over the next few weeks – at least until the new year.”

Prices are expected to drop again early next year due to an oversupply of oil on the global market, despite the Australian dollar sitting steady at just US 73c.
