BOYNE Island and Tannum Sands are about to get a 24 hour store as Caltex Boyne Island prepares to open all day every day.

The petrol station is currently advertising for more staff to take on overnight rosters to use existing approval to run the store 24-hours a day.

The store is now under new management and franchisee Andrew Patterson was obviously excited yesterday about always being open but wouldn’t comment on the change due to company policy.

But a Caltex spokesperson did say the change will be happening soon.

“Caltex Boyne Island is already authorised to operate 24-hours a day,” the spokes person said.

“This will occur in coming weeks once we have finalised some necessary operational arrangements.”

The spokesperson couldn’t say how many people would be employed because of the change.

The store will sell food, tobacco, drinks and fuel when all other stores in Boyne Island and Tannum Sands are closed.

But competitor BP Boyne Island owner Col Taylor said he wasn’t sure if there was a need for it.

“We have stayed open an hour later before to see if people would come in and it’s been really quiet,” he said.

“You get one or two people in an hour and it just doesn’t cover your wages and costs for being open.”

Col did commend Caltex for trailing the 24-hour a day store.

“If it doesn’t work for them they can always change it but good on them for giving it a go,” he said.

“It won’t change how I do business.”
