Several petrol stations in Eaton, Australind and Treendale areas near Bunbury have been ordered to stop serving fuel on Thursday afternoon.
The decision has been made that the ash in the air from the Waroona bushfire has made pumping fuel too dangerous.
A fast-moving blaze bearing down on Waroona has destroyed a vineyard, fences, sheds and a bridge, but no loss of life has been reported so far.
Caltex Woolworths in Eaton operator Ryan Heaterman told the Bunbury Mail they were ordered to stop serving fuel about 2pm due to the risk of ash and embers causing a risk of fire if they came into contact with fuel.
“Most petrol stations in Australind, Eaton and Treendale have been closed,” he said.
“We have had a lot of customers hear due to word of mouth and we have been told to wait for further instruction.
“While we can not sell fuel, we are still selling products.”
The Bunbury Mail understands petrol stations in town are still operating.
