POLICE investigating the fatal drive-by shooting of a man in Melbourne’s north on New Year’s Eve have released a picture of a woman who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The woman was photographed filling up the car that is believed to have been used in the shooting at a petrol station early the next day.

Police have said there is nothing to suggest the woman was involved in the shooting.

A 24-year-old Epping man was killed when he was shot in the face in Huskisson Avenue, Lalor, at 3.15pm on December 31.

The vehicle used has now been seized by Homicide Squad detectives.

“The stolen Mazda station wagon was later used during a petrol drive-off at a service station at the corner of Craigieburn and Hanson roads in Craigieburn at about 2am on New Year’s Day,” Victoria Police spokeswoman Leonie Johnson said.

“Detectives are now searching for the woman pictured who they believe may be able to assist their investigation.”

Paramedics treated the shooting victim at the scene before he was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

He later died from his injuries.
