A service station attendant has been attacked with a pair of scissors and bashed in a vicious armed robbery in Melbourne’s west.

The attendant, “Ali”, was working alone with his back to the door last Tuesday morning at a service station in Yarraville when he was seized from behind and assaulted with a pair of scissors.

CCTV footage shows Ali’s attacker throwing the 26-year-old attendant to the ground and punching him in the head, before forcing him towards the counter to open the till.

“I thought, ‘I might die today, today is my last day’,” Ali told 9NEWS.

The unprovoked assault, which culminated in the man fleeing with $1000 in takings, has left the attendant with cuts to his neck and bruising on his arm where he was brutally manhandled.

A week on from Ali’s frightening ordeal, the auto-electrical engineering student is unable to even contemplate returning to work in the foreseeable future.

Police are treating the armed robbery as an isolated incident and believe this is the attacker’s first offence.

They are confident security vision of the attack will help lead to the offender’s arrest.
