Gold Coast police are searching for a young woman who attempted to hold up a Hope Island Service station on Friday morning.

The woman, aged in her 20s, attempted to rob the Freedom service station on Hope Island Road this morning armed with a large carving knife.

Police alleged the woman entered the service station, pulled down a balaclava and demanded money.

The console operator, a 47-year-old man, activated a security alarm and refused to comply with the girl’s demands.

“The female offender was spooked, no one was injured,” Detective Senior Sergeant Todd Miller from Coomera CIB said.

Senior Sergeant Miller said police wanted to catch the woman before she offended again.

“People who behave in this manner are desperate in some way,” he said.

“It is pretty hard to preempt what she is going to do. We are hoping to make sure we apprehend this person before another offence occurs.”

The woman is described as being in her 20s, 160 centimetres tall, with a medium build and a fair complexion.
