Cop runs down suspect after alleged theft at Darwin service station
Kieran Banks, 15 March 2016
A cop chased down a would-be thief through a drain after he allegedly stole groceries from a Darwin service station.
The plain clothes officer from Strike Force Trident had stopped at the Puma service station on Berrimah Rd at around midnight.
A 21-year-old man allegedly grabbed a handful of groceries and damaged the door when the officer gave chase through a 2m wide roadside drain.
Territory Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said the culprit lost his shoe and some of the groceries as he ran from police and was arrested.
In a separate incident, a drunk driver attempted to fool police by switching seats with a passenger on McMillans Rd, Knuckey Lagoon.
Supt Jorgensen said the male driver was breathalysed and blew .185 and was disqualified from driving. The car was also unregistered and uninsured.
