Two bandits, one brandishing an axe and the other a meat cleaver,  terrorised staff as they robbed service stations in Melbourne’s south-east on Friday.

Police are hunting the men who they believe forced the front glass door of a Eumemmerring service station open just before 3am.

The men demanded cash and cigarettes, which were handed over to them, before fleeing from the Princes Highway into Doveton Avenue.

Police believe the same men robbed another service station an hour earlier on North Road in Murrumbeena.

The pair threw a brick through the glass door, before threatening staff with the same weapons.

The men went behind the counter and stole cash from the till before fleeing the scene.

Police believe they may also be responsible for an attempted armed robbery at a service station on Belgrave-Hallam Road in Hallam just after 1am on Wednesday.

They were unable to gain access to an internal door and fled the scene empty-handed.
