A man has used a propane blowtorch during a hold up at a southern Canberra service station, ACT police say.

CCTV shows the suspect entering the Woolworths Petrol station on Norman Lindsay Street in Conder about 10:00pm on Saturday.

Police said the man threatened a staff member with the blowtorch and demanded cash.

The staff member handed over the money before the offender fled towards a nature reserve on Tharwa Drive.

The man, described as being slim and about 170cm tall, was wearing dark pants, a grey hooded jumper and gloves, and had a black balaclava covering his face.

Police have released the CCTV footage and asked for any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.
