ONE person has been killed and another has been seriously injured in a horror multi-vehicle crash involving a petrol tanker on the Hume Highway between Sydney and Goulburn.

The crash happened at Colo Vale, near Mittagong, shortly before 4.30 on Saturday morning. Police said a petrol tanker collided with two cars in the southbound lanes.

The impact sent one car flipping through the air before it landed on the median strip. Sadly, the driver of this vehicle died at the scene.

Emergency crews were forced to cut a passenger out of the second vehicle. They were eventually freed and rushed to hospital with unknown injuries. Their condition is not known.

All southbound lanes of the highway were blocked for several hours, however, they have since been reopened.
