FIREFIGHTERS are working to contain a gas leak at a service station on the southern Gold Coast.

Emergency services were first told of the LPG gas leak at Currumbin at about 7am.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said firefighters had temporarily stifled the leak from the tanker valve with a wet rag but were waiting for experts to arrive to take over.

Police and paramedics are also on scene.

The service station has been evacuated until the leak is fixed.
