A former youth worker whose job was to help traumatised, at-risk youth stole more than $700 of petrol during a 10-month theft spree.

Bryan Church fronted the Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday over charges relating to a series of thefts at four Coles Express petrol stations across the Geelong West area between April 2017 and January 22 this year.

Church told the court he had been recovering from the loss of his partner at the time of the offending.

The court heard Church was a former ward of state who’d had no adult criminal history.

Church said he had no money when he stole petrol worth $733.24 over a number of months.

He was ordered to pay restitution and placed on an adjourned undertaking without conviction.
