A MAN was seen on CCTV buying five litres of fuel moments before a car was set alight nearby.

About 11.15pm on February 16 an unregistered Nissan Skyline was destroyed by a suspicious blaze in Riviera St, Seaford.

Just over an hour before, at 10pm, a man purchased five litres of fuel from the Caltex service station on the corner of Nepean Highway and Reserve Rd, 150m from the scene of the fire.

Frankston crime investigation unit detective Senior Constable Mark Garrett said the man then rode off on a mountain bike towards where the car was torched.

Police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the fire.

He’s described as caucasian with shaved dark hair. He was wearing a black shirt, blue pants and white runners.
