As unleaded petrol (ULP) prices reached all-time highs in the south east, RACQ has revealed its members had enjoyed more than $5 million in fuel discounts thanks to the Club’s agreement with PUMA service stations.

In less than one year, more than 440,000 RACQ members had taken advantage of the offer and saved a combined $5.19 million.

RACQ spokesperson Kirsty Clinton said the discount, of between four and six cents per litre (depending on the fuel type), was useful to Queensland drivers at a time when cost of living was high.

“Transport costs in Queensland are some of the most expensive in the country and a fuel discount is a practical way we can help our members out, while complimenting the advocacy work we’ve always done and continue to do to try to bring down these prices,” Ms Clinton said.

“By partnering with independents PUMA and, more recently, Pacific Petroleum, we’re giving our members an opportunity to take advantage of some extra savings at the bowser.”

However, Ms Clinton warned motorists the discount should only be used by members when it offered true savings.

“Members still need to do their research before filling the tank to make sure their paying the lowest price in their area,” she said.

“If another servo is offering fuel at a better price than you can get with your discount, we’d urge you go and give your business to the cheaper retailer instead.

“While PUMA and other independents are often some of the cheapest in the market, we need to make sure we’re continuing to reward those servos with the best prices with our business. It’s the only way we can have a true impact on skyrocketing Queensland fuel prices.”

RACQ members could find the cheapest service station in their area on the RACQ Fair Fuel website.
