Motorists will snap up the best petrol bargains in the next few days as prices hit the bottom of the cycle.

The Adelaide daily average price for unleaded petrol hit 120c/L today rapidly on the path to the current 117.2c/L wholesale price for retailers.

A spokesman for the fuel-price app MotorMouth said Adelaide motorists driving home this afternoon or shopping for the weekend tomorrow could save 30c/L for unleaded petrol.

“As of Thursday morning, there is a 30 cent per litre spread in fuel prices across Adelaide. It pays to shop around,” the spokesman said.

In bad news for motorist the terminal gate wholesale price has hit 119c/L, up from 115c/L only two weeks ago. This is the point at which major fuel retail outlets begin to again spike prices, and this cycle will begin again likely before Sunday.

The price paid by retailers is used by them as a marker at which to spike prices again, meaning motorists paying the current average are buying unleaded petrol for cost price.

The RAA has taken to twitter urge motorists to snap up bargains going into the weekend: “Made it through the high prices of last week’s ULP price spike? Ready to fill up? Shop around and save $$ in #Adelaide as there are prices to be found well below $1.20/L. #SAFuel”.

MotorMouth data shows Adelaide’s eastern suburbs bargains can be found mainly close to the city on Greenhill Rd and at Rose Park, in the north east at the stations closest to the city on Payneham Rd, and in the north Prospect Rd, Greenhill Rd and Main North Rd all have the best prices.

Port Rd, Henley Beach Rd and South Rd have the best prices for those heading west or south.

Meanwhile SA has recorded the best average unleaded petrol prices in Australian for 2018; 141.6c/L. Australian Institute of Petroleum figures released this week show the highest average price paid for the year was in the NT at 160.4c/L, followed by Tasmania 154.7c/L, Queensland 145.3c/L, WA 144.9c/L, NSW 143.6c/L and Victoria 143.4c/

The average diesel price in Adelaide today is 135.7c/L.
