Last week, the ACCC released its new and updated franchising resources and videos, which provide guidance and useful information to prospective franchisees. These resources have been translated into Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified and Hindi.

These materials are focused on delivering key messages to prospective franchisees. This includes information on conducting due diligence, such as reading and understanding all documents prior to signing, and seeking legal, accounting and business advice, as well as highlighting some of the risks with franchising.

You can find the following resources, including translations, on our Buying a franchise? Know the risks webpage:

  • Information Statement
  • Franchising: what you need to know factsheet
  • Three short videos:
  • Buying a franchise: key steps
  • Buying a franchise: supplier restrictions
  • Buying a franchise: price vs costs

We are currently promoting these resources using digital advertising and social media to ensure these important messages reach prospective franchisees and the broader franchising community.

If your organisation engages with franchising participants, we encourage you to promote these resources and share the Buying a franchise? Know the risks webpage via your communication channels and networks.

Thank you to those who previously provided feedback on our draft ‘quick guide to a franchise disclosure document’ and the draft updated ‘model disclosure document’. We are currently considering all feedback received and finalising these resources. In the coming months, we also plan to share some findings from our targeted compliance checks on franchisors operating in the café, restaurant and take away food services sector.

To assist you with any future promotion and sharing of our franchising resources, in the next couple of months we will provide you with a Communications Toolkit with descriptions of resources and content that you may wish to use in your communication channels.

You can stay up to date on the latest from the ACCC by following our ACCC Consumer Rights page on Facebook, @acccgovau on Twitter and the ACCC company page on LinkedIn.
