IT HAS been four years in the works but one iconic Lockyer Valley petrol station is about to open its doors to the public.

Rusty’s Service Station in Hatton Vale has undergone a number of upgrades during the past several years and owner Ross McPhee is relieved to announce an opening date.

“I’m probably relieved to get to the end after four years,” Mr McPhee said.

“I’m always excited when I’ve built something.”

If all goes to plan, the service station will begin serving its first customers on Monday, from 6am.

After that, the business will continue to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

While their cars enjoy a fresh tank of petrol – everything from unleaded to diesel – motorists will be able to kick back with refreshments at the station.

“We will have traditional convenience lines and foods, either takeaway or sit-in – there’s something for everyone,” Mr McPhee said.

“We will have everything; you name it, we’ll have it.”

Sixteen new staff will come aboard the shop, four of whom had worked previously at petrol stations owned by Mr McPhee.

Mr McPhee said he did not know what to expect after opening.

“What will be, will be, won’t it,” he said.

“We have built it the best we can and I guess we will be judged by the public.”
