Junction is driving support for Kangaroo Island locals affected by the bushfires through a fuel card campaign.
Junction, which manages the Community Centre in Kingscote, is calling for South Australians to purchase fuel cards to give directly to those in need.
Junction CEO Maria Palumbo said the initiative was a practical and tangible way people could support individuals and families especially those who had lost their homes.
“As a result of the distances people have to travel across the Island, many families are under pressure for fuel,” Ms Palumbo said. “In some cases, their car is the only asset they have left so being able to travel independently, is incredibly important.”
BP (OTR) and Caltex are the main fuel retailers on the Island with OTR kick-starting support for Junction’s initiative.
“I’m thrilled to say OTR and Caltex, in conjunction with Turner Fuels on the Island ,have BOTH already donated $1,000 in vouchers which we will start handing out tomorrow,” Ms Palumbo said.
“Plus, everyone who buys a $40 card from OTR, the company will provide a $50 fuel card and for those donating $20, they will donate a $25 card.
“If you purchase these cards over the phone, OTR will arrange for these cards to get to us within the next few days so we can get them to our community centre as a priority.
“Meantime, Caltex StarCash cards can be purchased from Caltex service stations and, can be dropped off to our Junction office at Parkside. Again, we’ll make sure they reach the Island as quickly as we can.”
Junction is also welcoming Drakes gift cards to enable people to buy goods and groceries not included in hampers.
Ms Palumbo said Junction would distribute the cards along with Foodbank SA food hampers through the Community Centre.
“Our call for the fuel cards and Drakes vouchers is very specific and compliments the generosity of those who have already supported or are supporting the KI Mayor Relief and Recovery Bushfire Fund and other emergency assistance efforts,” she said.

- Drakes Gift Cards can be purchased at any Drakes store.
- Caltex StarCash cards can be purchased from Caltex stations.
