Prior to the commencement of the mandatory Real Time Fuel Price Reporting that is intended to be introduced later in 2020, the Tasmanian Government has reached out to service station operators seeking their voluntary participation in the scheme now.

The proposed real time fuel price reporting scheme will be established through the creation of the Australian Consumer Law (Code of Practice for Fuel Price Reporting) Regulations 2020 and will mandate that all fuel retails must register with the scheme and notify current fuel price information. The Code is out for public consultation until 27/7/2020. Read the Code and provide comment at www.justice.tas.gov.au.

With the approval of the Code and therefore the implementation of the scheme at a high level of confidence the Government has taken the unusual step to get the ball rolling before the scheme is officially in place.

Service Station operators in Tasmania have received letters from the Government seeking that they register their business details now, so that the Government Price App – which should launch in the coming weeks will be populated with sites and product information.

Sites are being encouraged to register now at www.cbos.tas.gov.au via an online form.

ACAPMA advises that if you are an operator of a site in Tasmania and you have not yet received notice about the scheme please contact ACAPMA via communications@acapma.com.au or contact Consumer, Building and Occupational Services in Tasmania directly via cbos.info@justice.tas.gov.au.
