Police have been forced to shoot through a 64-year-old man’s car window after he allegedly drove at them in Melbourne‘s southwest.
Officers approached the man after he pulled into Altona Meadows service station, just after 1.20am on Sunday, to question why he was out after curfew.
Under Melbourne’s strict stage four lockdown, residents aren’t allowed to leave their homes between 8pm and 5am unless for work, medical reasons or caregiving.
An approaching officer then pulled out his gun and shot through the window.
The car was followed for a short time in nearby residential streets before the driver turned into Harrison Court and was arrested.
The Altona Meadows man is currently under police guard in hospital due to a medical condition.
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
Victoria recorded another 16 deaths and 279 more coronavirus cases on Sunday.
The deaths take the total number nationally to 395 and the toll in Victoria to 309.
