THE man accused of hitting a service station attendant in the face during an attempt to steal food has been charged by police.

A 21-year-old man will face Darwin Local Court after he was charged with aggravated assault for the incident on September 8.

Police allege the man entered a Casuarina service station at around 8.30pm.

An NT Police spokesman said the man allegedly tried to steal a number of items of food before the incident took place.

“An employee stopped him, recovered the items, and escorted him from the store. The male then allegedly struck the employee to the face and left the scene,” he said.

Strike Force Trident officers identified the male following investigations.
