Bay County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for allegedly robbing a service station at the Beach with a bottle of men’s body spray on Sunday.

According to a Bay County Sheriff’s Office press release, Tevin Sheldon Powell, 28, was arrested and charged with robbery and booked in the Bay County Jail.

The press release states that deputies responded to a call at 6:55 a.m. Sunday about a robbery at the Marathon service station at 1724 Thomas Drive. The clerk reported that a man had entered the store, approached the counter and demanded money from the register.

The clerk told deputies the suspect had what appeared to be a firearm concealed under his shirt.

The suspect was described as a man with a Jamaican accent whose face was concealed with some type of covering. The suspect removed cash from the register and also demanded electronic cigarette packs.

The suspect then left on foot with the money and e-cigs, the press release states.

Deputies began searching the area and while checking a nearby apartment complex, found Powell walking in the parking lot. Powell was allegedly carrying clothing that appeared to match some of what the suspect was seen wearing in video surveillance footage of the robbery.

Powell was detained and upon further searching, deputies allegedly found the remainder of the suspect’s clothing in a public bathroom at the apartment complex. Inside the clothing was a large amount of cash, e-cig packaging and a spray bottle of men’s body spray.

During an interview, Powell allegedly confessed that he had held the body spray bottle under his shirt while committing the robbery to make it appear as if he had a handgun.
