A man has allegedly rammed his car into a London police station, before getting out, appearing to pour petrol on the road and setting light to it.

Police have confirmed the “major incident” – which took place at Edmonton Police Station in Enfield, North London at around 7pm Wednesday local time – in a statement.

“The vehicle remains at the scene. Specialist officers are in attendance while it is examined.

“The police station has been evacuated and a large police cordon is in place.”

Footage posted to social media showed a man appearing to set the flammable liquid alight before being tackled and arrested by police on the footpath.

Councillor Ergin Erbil earlier Tweeted: “Reports of major incident declared at Edmonton Green police station. If you’re in the Fore Street area stay safe and be careful.”

Police are now working to determine whether there were any injuries sustained in the incident.
