Delivering improved accuracy and transparency and simpler operation the first Electronic Work Diaries (EWDs) have been approved for use by the NHVR. Touted as being a solution that will reduce the burden on the driver and the company, while providing the operator and regulators with better information about the history of the drivers operations, EWDs have been long awaited, and the announcement of not only the approval framework, but the approval of the first two programs is welcome news in many circles.
From 1 December 2020 Heavy Vehicle Fleet Operators will have the option of rolling out Electronic Work Diaries, provided that those Diaries have been vetted and approved by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
Currently there are two products approved; Smart eDriver by Step Global and Sentinel by Teletrac Navman, however the NHVR has a process for providers to submit their EWDs for consideration and approval.
