POLICE are appealing for assistance as they search for a man who held up a Townsville service station in a terrifying armed robbery.

A man armed with a knife entered the Caltex service station on Pilkington St, Garbutt, about 3.40am on Monday and threatened a female staff member while demanding money.

The offender his face and made of with a sum of money, and was seen fleeing the service station on foot towards.

‘It’s extremely confronting. This is obviously a serious offence,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Brenden Stevenson.

“He’s armed with a weapon. She (the staff member) has done everything that he’s asked, which we encourage.

“Luckily no one was hurt.”

Acting Senior Sgt Stevenson said it was unknown at this stage how much money the armed offender stole.

The man is described as about 175cm with a slim build, dark completion and aged between 18 and 25 years old.

He was wearing camouflage clothing during the armed robbery.

“Any information the public has, they can contact either their local police station or Crime Stoppers,” Acting Senior Sgt Stevenson said.
