The RACT has launched an app to enable motorists to find the best petrol prices in Tasmania.

The Fuel Saver app allows users to search for petrol prices by suburb and postcode with a red tick distinguishing the cheapest price in the area.

The app also provides distances and directions to a selected retailer.

RACT chief member experience officer Stacey Pennicott said despite increases in the wholesale price for unleaded and diesel in the past month, retail prices had remained steady.

“Our calculations show that so far in December, Tasmanians have not been overcharged a cent for unleaded fuel,” she said.

“In comparison, motorists were ripped off almost $570,000 for unleaded last month.”

Ms Pennicott said this was proof real-time petrol pricing worked.

The average petrol price in Tasmania last week was 123.6 cents per litre.
