AN ECHUCA mother is warning residents to be on the lookout for petrol thieves after both her son’s cars were drained of fuel within two weeks of each other.

Carolynn Hore, who lives in Rutley Crescent, said someone broke off the petrol cap to her son’s car before siphoning fuel out of it overnight Saturday.

“He is only a student so not happy with having to pay to get that repaired,” she said.

Her other son’s car was targeted overnight on December 28, 2020.

Both cars were parked on the nature strip of their Rutley Crescent home.

“Both tanks were close to full before and both were still half full after they had been jimmy opened and siphoned, so they don’t hang around for long,” Carolynn said.

“Not to mention all the fuel they spill. For the small amount they actually get, it doesn’t seem worth it.

“It will cost my son more to get his petrol door fixed than they got in petrol I would think.
It’s just so frustrating.”

Carolynn said she couldn’t see the point of reporting the crime to police.

“They can’t get it back and it’s not enough to claim on insurance, so I didn’t want to waste their time,” she said.

“I just posted it on Facebook to warn others so it wouldn’t happen to anyone else.”

However, any residents who have information about the incident can report it to police on 5483 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
