Multiple charges, Earlville: Yesterday, Far North detectives charged an 18-year-old Manunda man following an ongoing investigation into multiple property and traffic offences in the Far North.

Between January 26 and February 8, the man was allegedly involved in several burglary and dangerous driving offences throughout the Greater Cairns region.

In the early hours of yesterday morning (February 8), the man allegedly forced entry to a Dyer Close home before stealing wallets, bank cards and vehicle keys.

Police will further allege the man then attempted to steal a vehicle from the garage before another man confronted him.

The man has allegedly kicked him, causing him to fall to the ground before driving off with his car, a grey Holden sedan.

It will be further alleged the man drove the vehicle to a Thompson Street service station where he stole fuel before driving dangerously throughout Earlville.

With the assistance of the Queensland Government air helicopter, the dog squad and specialist police, officers were able to track the man to a Mulgrave Road shopping centre where he allegedly abandoned the vehicle and ran through the centre.

The man then stole clothing before attempting to run from police.

Officers chased the man on foot before successfully restraining him.

The man was later charged with 18 offences including six counts of stealing, five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts each of burglary, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count each of robbery, obstruct police and a learner driver failing to comply with licence requirements.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
