A dangerous armed thief is on the run after a brazen early morning robbery at a service station on the northern beaches.

Police are hunting for a knife wielding thief who made off with cash during a brazen early morning service station robbery on the northern beaches on Thursday.

The male robber threatened a lone attendant with the weapon at the popular Shell Coles Express at Forestville.

Police said they were called to the service station, on the intersection of Warringah Rd and Cook St, at about 4.40am.

The young male attendant told officers that the thief, with his face concealed, threatened him with the knife soon after entering the shop and demanded the cash.

After grabbing the money, the thief fled on foot.

No one was injured during the incident.

Another employee at the service station told the Manly Daily that his workmate was “feeling OK” after the frightening incident.

“He is still talking to the police.”

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command have set up a crime scene. Detectives were taking a statement from the attendant this morning at the service station.
