A Marian service station worker used a stool to fight off two robbers armed with knives.

The incident about 5.19am Sunday was captured on CCTV cameras.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Eaton said the two people went into the store armed with knives and threatened the attendant, demanding cash.

The worker, a man, fought back, first throwing something at the two offenders.

He was then able to fight the duo off with a stool, the Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge said.

The pair fled the scene in a stolen Volkswagen Amarok, which had been taken earlier that morning from an East Mackay address, with a third person behind the wheel.

Senior Sergeant Eaton said barely 20 minutes later the stolen VW was at the Night Owl convenience store at Mount Pleasant where offenders smashed their way through the front door.

Offenders entered the store and stole property before they fled in the stolen vehicle, which was found about 6am Monday burnt out on Hume St.

No arrests have been made.

Police are calling for anyone with information about the armed robbery, break and enter or stolen vehicle to come forward.
