Police have launched an investigation after $24,000 worth of goods and cash was stolen from a Tasmanian service station this morning.

Around 1.20am a male wearing dark clothing and a light coloured balaclava broke into the United Service Station on Main Rd, Sheffield.

The male stole a large quantity of cigarettes, including tailor made and tobacco pouches, cash and approximately 50 pairs of assorted sunglasses.

Police believe the stolen goods were worth around $24,000.

The business was closed at the time of the incident.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have been in the area of Main St and West Kentish Rd, Sheffield, around that time.
