A man armed with a knife started a short standoff at a Tasmanian service station overnight after he threatened to set fire to the building.
Staff and customers fled when the man climbed onto the roof of the Launceston Ampol service station on Westbury Road around 11:30pm on Wednesday.
The area around the service station was cordoned off for around 50 minutes, with several roads closed and dozens of armed officers quickly swarming the scene.
Police arrived to find the 27-year-old Glenorchy man in a “distressed state” on the roof making threats and subsequently arrested him after a “short interaction”.
The man will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today on charges of arson, breach of bail, unlawful possession of a dangerous article in a public place and recklessly discharging a missile to the danger of another person.
