Police arrested a man overnight who was allegedly threatening people with a knife at a Newport service station.

Just before 12.30am this morning (Friday, 22 December), NSW Police received a Triple Zero (000) call about a man allegedly armed with a knife at a service station at Barrenjoey Road, Newport. At about the same time, the service station’s duress alarm was triggered by staff.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command rushed to the scene, where they found a 36-year-old man allegedly wielding a knife and threatening a group of young people.

The man was disarmed and arrested at the scene, and he was then taken to Manly Police Station where he assisted police with inquiries. Subsequently, he was charged with being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The 36-year-old man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on Wednesday, 10 January 2024.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
